The Home Work Journal · By Alyson Rice
Every home has a to-do list. Some are just longer than others.
You know that list.
The paint colours you’ve been meaning to choose. But where do you even start? Who knew there were so many shades of WHITE?!
Or maybe it’s that gorgeous, bold colour you’ve been dreaming about but haven’t quite worked up the courage to try. You love it. You’ve saved the inspiration photos. You’ve even brought home the paint sample. But every time you look at it, you think, Can I really pull this off?
(Spoiler alert: You probably can. You just need a little confidence and a good plan.)
The room that doesn’t quite feel finished.
The renovation that’s been sitting in the planning stages. Well, technically, the planning stages are still happening in your head. You know what you want to do, but figuring out how to get started, let alone finished, is another story.
Or the little things around the house that somehow never make it to the top of the list.
Sound familiar?
The truth is, creating a home you love takes time, thought, and often a little more coordination than you expected.
And sometimes, you just need someone who knows where to start and how to keep things moving.
That’s where I come in.
I’m Alyson, the person behind Home Work OKGN.
I created this business around a simple idea:
Your home. My assignment.
Whether you’re navigating design decisions, coordinating a project, preparing a property for sale, or making sure your home is looked after while you’re away, my goal is to make the process feel a little less overwhelming.
I bring a thoughtful eye, an organized approach, and a genuine appreciation for the details that make a house feel like home.
Because good design isn’t just about how a room looks.
It’s about how it works for the people who live there.
The little details make a big difference.
Sometimes the biggest transformation starts with something small.
A better layout. A more cohesive colour palette. The right finishing touches. Or finally making a decision about those 47 shades of white you’ve been staring at.
And sometimes it’s about being brave enough to do something a little unexpected.
That deep, moody green. The rich navy. The colour you’ve loved forever but keep talking yourself out of.
Life’s too short for a boring home!
Whether it’s a bold wall colour, a colourful rug, a statement piece of furniture, or an unexpected little detail, your home should reflect your personality. Not someone else’s idea of what’s safe or trendy.
Sometimes a little colour is exactly what a room needs. And sometimes it’s knowing where to use it, how much is enough, and what to pair it with that makes all the difference.
Other times, the assignment is bigger.
There are contractors to communicate with, timelines to keep track of, decisions to navigate, or a home that needs a trusted set of eyes while you’re away.
Whatever the assignment, I believe the process should feel collaborative, practical, and personal.
No two homes are exactly alike.
And neither are their to-do lists.
Let’s make some progress.
Home Work OKGN is based in the beautiful Okanagan, where homes are as varied as the people who live in them.
From refreshing a favourite space to keeping an eye on a property while you’re away, I’m here to help you move things forward.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
That’s part of your home work.
And it’s the part I love helping with.
So, what’s on your home’s to-do list?
I’d love to hear about it.

Your home. My assignment.
